I’ve heard about this word a few years ago for the first time, and applied the technique to my blog.

As a result, my affiliate blog started earning $500/month(before it was $100/month).

What is a markeitng funnel?

A marketing funnel is a customer journey until your customers buy your products.

It’s also called “conversion funnels” which is more focused on the customer journey with conversions.

Funnel marketing is the marketing method that’s using good organized funnels.

Funnel optimization is the term that is used when you keep optimizing the funnel.

Why does funnel optimization matter?

What’s the best way to increase sales in the short term??

In many cases, optimizing the conversion funnel would work the best.

For example, if you work for an e-commerce website with a big brand, the main conversion funnel would be like this;

  1. Visit homepage
  2. Move to the product detail page
  3. Click to buy and go to cart page
  4. The last page in the funnel would be an order confirmation page

What you can do here is to optimize those pages with CRO(Conversion Rate Optimization) and UXO(User Experience Optimization).

Some people might say “Let’s start blogging”, “Let’s focus on Facebook Ads”, but acquiring a new audience might take time and might not convert into sales.

Generally optimizing the existing CV funnel would generate the highest ROI(Return on investment) and if your idea is not on it, it wouldn’t help you increase the sales.

The key technique – Tofu / Mofu / Bofu

In other words, it’s all about “Taking the right step”.

This technique is more effective if you are selling expensive complicated products.

List building is a technique to collect the list of emails and it works

Yeah I do too. I’ve seen for Line@ on Japanese blogs lately.

The strategy to collect the list of emails is called list building and this is the entry to the Bofu funnel.

  • Tofu = Subscribe
  • Mofu = Receive email regularly and become a fan
  • Bofu = Promote your products or services

The advantage of making a conversion funnel on the affiliate website is that I can avoid competing for the difficult keywords such as “sign up job recruitment site”.

Those keywords would generate a lot of conversions right away but I would take a lot of effort to rank for and you have to keep updating the content because your competitors would try to outrank your article.

That is why it is good to target the less competitive keywords and guide the visitors to your conversion funnels so that you don’t have to keep updating your content

Case Study 3: Facebook Ads → Landing page → Price Page

Let’s check out one of the Apple’s conversions funnel

Famous companies like Apple have huge traffic on their homepage. In this case, improving the conversion funnel from the homepage will increase the conversion rate on the entire site.
Middle of the Funnel(Mofu)
If the products or services are complicated or expensive, the quality of MOFU content is important.
Bottom of the Funnel(Bofu)
The product detail pages usually have a specification of the products. Apple shows it really well.

iPhone’s funnel is different from other e-commerce websites.

It might be the best format for any gadget or electrical appliances.

Conclusion

There are a variety of marketing channels and tactics but what really works is always simple.
